How to Fit in Your Workout Even on the Busiest Days
May 22, 2017 |
Time is of the essence. You’ve got work to do and places to go. The kids have soccer practice and you have to leave work early again to take them where they need to go. Now, how are you going to find time to work out? If you have the motivation, you’re halfway there. Just follow these few steps start a new workout routine that keeps your busy life in mind.
Make it a Priority
Change the way you think and feel about exercise. Instead of thinking about exercise like a chore, start making it a part of your daily routine. You wouldn’t leave the house without brushing your teeth or combing your hair. So change your attitude and change your lifestyle to match it. It’s all about thinking and feeling positively about your new routine.
Wake Up Earlier
It’s easier to fit in a workout if you wake up 15 or 20 minutes earlier than you normally would. This might also mean going to bed earlier, but it’ll be worth it when you feel more accomplished at the end of your day. If you’re a snoozer, set two different alarms and place one out of reach. It’ll help you stick to your commitment of waking up on time and working out in the morning.
Plan Your Workout
Make a fitness plan and decide on a video you know you’ll work out to. In this day and age, good workout videos are easy to come by. Search YouTube and you’ll see a wide variety of different ways to stay fit. Try something fun like Zumba, dance, or Pilates. A lot of free workout videos are relatively short, so choose one that you know you’ll have time for. Even if you decide to only do 10 or 15 minutes, you’ll feel better knowing that you got a little fitness in.
Join a Fitness Group
Talk with people at work or on social media about wanting to get fit. It’ll inspire other people around you to get fit too. Workouts are a little bit more fun if you can do it with a few friends, and they’ll help you to stay on track as well. Start or join a running group and set a goal to run or walk together in a 5K. These types of goals can keep you motivated. If you don’t know anyone who might want to join you, search on Meetup for exercise groups. You might be pleasantly surprised.
Work Out at Work
When you sit at a desk all day, it’s very difficult to stay fit. Now that studies have shown that sitting all day can have some negative health effects, it’s time to take action. Make sure to fit in your steps and invest in a FitBit. The FitBit device is worn like a bracelet, and it can help you count your steps.
Try avoiding elevators and escalators and start a daily stretch routine during your lunch break. Look at runner stretches or yoga stretches to get started. You can also invest in a standing desk to help you stay out of your chair. Sometimes, it’s the little things that can make a big difference.
Now that you have your workout goals in place, start thinking about eating healthier too. For healthy snacking, try munching on chopped veggies, fruits and Second Nature trail mix packs. Try trading in the potato chips for some California Almonds instead. Little changes like these can help you to stay healthy and energized for your new routine. Every morning is a new opportunity to start a healthier you. Make tomorrow your healthy new beginning.
