They call Detroit America’s great comeback city for a reason: For the past few years, the southeastern city has been buzzing with exciting new attractions, from hip dining destinations like Selden Standard to wholesome, Instagram-friendly diners like Rose’s Fine Foods. But don’t forget the classics: No visit is complete without a stop at the Detroit Institute of Arts or the Motown Museum. The city’s new streetcar, the QLINE, makes it even easier to explore.
The Petoskey Area is known for its namesake Petoskey stones, unique fossils of prehistoric coral. Go hunting for some along the beaches of Lake Michigan, then hit Big Bear Adventures, which offers river trips and a family fun center with mini golf, bumper cars and more. In the evening, peep the stars at Headlands International Dark Sky Park, a 550-acre woodland with summertime views of the Milky Way and, if you’re lucky, meteor showers.
